A simple, easy chocolate cake recipe that turns out incredibly moist thanks to oil (not butter!) and sour cream. It’s also freezable and keeps well!

To amplify the chocolate flavor, I add hot coffee or espresso powder to the wet ingredients. You won’t taste the coffee though. It’s just for extra richness! You can also use hot water if desired.

Carrot Cake Recipe

Carrot Cake is a classic that's easy to make. You'll love the perfect blend of warm spices and luscious cream cheese frosting.

All-purpose flour creates structure, while leaveners (baking soda and baking powder) give the cake its rise. Ground cinnamon adds a warm spice flavor.

Vary the mix-ins by adding golden or pitted dates instead of raisins. And switch the pecans for chopped walnuts or shredded coconut.

Butter Cake Recipe

With a soft and buttery crumb, this cake is quick to make. It relies on leavenings like baking powder and baking soda to rise and needs unsalted butter at room temperature to ensure a light result.

Be sure to alternate adding the flour and milk to prevent over-mixing, which creates tough gluten and results in a dense cake. Also, try to glaze the cake while it is still warm so it soaks in more of the liquid for a richer flavor.

Buttermilk Cake Recipe

Buttermilk makes this old-fashioned cake tender and moist. It also gives it a nice tang that balances out the sweetness.

Use a mixer to cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time mixing after each addition.

If you can’t find buttermilk, combine 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar with enough milk to make a cup.

Lemon Cake Recipe

This moist lemon cake recipe is a family favorite. It's lower in sugar and butter than most other cakes and it tastes great!

Combine dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt and lemon zest. In another bowl, whisk the liquid ingredients: milk, vegetable oil and fresh lemon juice.
